Parent/Alumni Activities

Parly/OC Invitational – Help organize the food for visiting schools,video taping the teams as they compete, taking photographs of each school that competes, collecting fees as schools arrive, serving as judges for competing teams.

Trivia Night – We need parents to provide snacks for the teams, help serve food and grade the trivia rounds. There are two trivia nights, Nov 12^th and March 10^th.

Alumni Holiday Auction – Wemust have five representatives present in order to earn our full leadership points for the West TN Awards Program. (First Saturday Evening in December at Liberty High School, Jackson, TN.)Mr. Goulder

Proficiency Applications – We need people to help proof read applications,write picture captions or even take pictures of children working. Mrs. Ann

Newspaper Articles – Help reporters to get their articles published in the Covington Leader and Commercial Appeal. We are unfortunately not in the paper as often as we should be. Mrs. Ashley

Photo Books – Last year the alumni produced a photo book for the chapter which served as a yearbook for FFA. Parents presented these as personal gifts to the members at the banquet. Mrs. Ann or Mrs. Ashley

FFA Banquet – Obtain sponsors for awards, wrap photo books, help to obtain large live auction items and help with the silent auction. Mrs.Ann

Sheep Shows– 20-30 drinks (Water, Gatorade, etc), 3 coolers full of ice, and chaperones.Tennessee State Fair will require meals. If you are interested in sponsoring a meal at one of these fairs please contact Mrs. Ann for details.

Goat Shows – One cooler full of drinks. If interested in providing snacks for travel to and from the shows please see Ms. McRae.

Back to School Cookout – This is at the beginning of each school year and is held at Valentine Park. Parent opportunities include person to grill, referee for sports, past members to encourage new members, helping set up. Any Advisor

Tipton County BBQ Festival – Parents may help with obtaining sponsorships, transportation, or even drinks. Mrs. Ann

Children’s Barnyard –Chaperones/People to help. Ms. McRaeor Mr. Goulder

Contests –We are always encouraging parents to help out with contests. This could include volunteering for the Parly/OC invitational, helping to drive students to contests, or giving an audience to listen to speeches. The contests that we compete in each year include:

Parliamentary Procedure – Mr. Goulder

Sponsoring students to go to FFA Camp - Every year there are students who would love to go to camp but unfortunately are unable to pay for it. There is a definite need here. If you would like to sponsor a student for Camp, the cost is usually around $150. Mr.Goulder

Employing Students – If you work in an agricultural industry, you may consider hiring students for part-time jobs in order to pay FFA Dues, attend camp, conventions or starting an SAE. Mr. Newsom

Alumni Convention – We must have five representatives present in order to earn our full leadership points for the West TN Awards Program. (February at Montgomery Bell State Park,Dickson, TN) Mr. Newsom

National and State Convention – Chaperone to members at half price to the cost of members. We usually only have room for three or four parents; therefore, we try to take parents of members that are competing in State Competitions. Mrs.Ann

Facilities Maintenance – The Barn is always in need of repairs and the fences are always under the need to work. Organizing a crew of three or four and developing a work day. Mr. Newsom

Building Signs - We had set a signs given to the advisors to better promote our department. A permanent sign stand & structure needs to be constructed for the Building, Greenhouse and Barn. Mrs.Ann
